Prom Dresses Collected at Comerica Bank For Girls In Need

Comerica Bank has partnered with the non-profit Hope Closet to host the annual Prom Dress Drive for girls in need.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — Prom season is just around the corner and for those who struggle during the school year, this extra expense of dressing up can mean the choice between breaking the bank or missing out on one of high school’s most memorable affairs. Comerica Bank has partnered with the non-profit Hope Closet to host the annual Prom Dress Drive. The fundraiser takes donated dresses and accessories for girls in need.

Ten Comerica Bank locations around metro Detroit will collect the new or gently used formal dresses now through April 6. Hope Closet provides more than 500 gowns to young women each year for their special dances.

“For 15 years, we’ve helped provide thousands of girls the opportunity to attend special school events like prom,” said Whitney Drake, founder and president of Hope Closet, in a press release. “The generosity of the community and partners like Comerica help us build self-confidence through a special experience they may never have otherwise.”

Along with dresses, jewelry, shoes, purses and wraps will also be accepted. The community donated more than 1,600 dresses and 100 pairs of shoes last year during the first Comerica Prom Dress Drive.

“Missing out on high school memories because of financial status is something no teenage girl should face,” said Monica L. Martinez, senior vice president of external affairs for Comerica Bank. “So, as you’re cleaning out your closets for spring, consider donating your new or gently used formal dresses to help local young women make these precious memories.”
