Woman Dies Saving Grandson From Roseville Fire

The 4-year-old boy she saved is expected to recover from the fire, authorities say.

ROSEVILLE, MI — A woman has died after reportedly trying to save her young grandson from a fire in Roseville. Authorities said the 4-year-old is expected to recover.

The fire broke out in the Macomb Manor apartment complex Sunday and the woman reportedly died from breathing the thick smoke, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Lachesha Cannon, who lives in the apartment complex, told The Macomb Daily she heard a child screaming "fire, fire" and looked outside to see flames coming from a first-floor unit. She says the grandmother, who used a wheelchair, was "crawling on the ground trying to push him outside." (Subscribe to Patch for more regional news and real-time alerts.)
