Beaumont offering medication take-back Oct. 24

According to the CDC, 72,000 Americans died from by overdose in 2017. Opioids accounted for nearly 68 % of deaths. Drug take backs can help.

Every day, more people die from opioid-related overdoses than from car accidents or gun violence. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 72,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2017 with opioids accounting for nearly 68% of these deaths. To turn the tide on the nation's opioid epidemic, community members need a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused medications.

Beaumont Health and local law enforcement agencies are encouraging people to drop off unused or expired prescribed medications Friday, Oct. 23 at Beaumont hospitals in Dearborn, Taylor, Trenton and Wayne. On Saturday, Oct. 24 medications will be accepted at the Sterling Heights Medical Park across from Beaumont Hospital, Troy.
The take-back event includes over-the-counter medications and other drugs. No questions asked. Organizers prefer pills be in a plastic baggie. The four hospital sites will only accept pills. The Sterling Heights Medical Park site will also accept medical sharps.
