Breaking and Entries, Larcenies, and More Crime in Troy

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Auto/vehicle thefts

Macy’s, 500 W. 14 Mile Rd., Jan. 11, 2:31 p.m.: Complainant reported she responded to a Craigslist ad about a vehicle for sale. Complainant met the person in the lot of the mall decided to purchase the vehicle and paid the owner $4800. complainant took the vehicle title to the Secretary of State to get a plate and was advised the vehicle had been reported stolen.

3000 block of Kingsley Street, Jan. 11, 10:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.: Resident reported his 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette was stolen from his driveway.

600 block of Robbins, Jan. 11-13, 2 p.m. to 5 a.m.: Resident reported his 1988 Yamaha G1 Golf Cart was stolen from the parking lot.

Macy’s 500 W. 14 Mile Rd., Jan. 13, 8:40 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.: Complainant advised she parked her 1998 Chrysler Cirrus on the north side of the lot. When she returned her vehicle was missing.

Breaking and entries

Troy Jewelers, 2935 E. Big Beaver Rd., Jan. 14, 5 a.m.: Troy officers responded to an alarm call. Upon arrival officers discovered the entry door glass smashed and the iron bars pulled away from the door as well. Inside there were several jewelry cases smashed.  The thieves had also pulled the electrical meter off of the wall, cutting the power to the business. It is unknown how much jewelry the thieves escaped with at the time of this report.

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

Macy’s, 500 W. 14 Mile Rd., Dec. 27, 12 noon: Complainant reported while checking his bank statement he found three unauthorized charges to his account totaling $832.09.

Drugs/narcotics

Rochester Road and East Fourteen Mile Road, Jan. 11, 1:37 a.m.: Officers stopped a vehicle failing to stop while exiting onto the roadway. Officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Officers observed marijuana on the vehicle floor boards, a mason jar full of marijuana in the glove compartment, and five prescription pills without a prescription. The driver, a 27-year-old from Royal Oak, was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of prescription narcotics. 

Nordstrom, 2850 W. Big Beaver Rd., Jan. 12, 4:49 p.m.: Officers were dispatched on a retail fraud. While patting the 34-year-old suspect from Birmingham prior to arrest, officers discovered a needle used to inject narcotics in the suspects pants pocket as well as a baggie containing heroin. The suspect was arrested for possession of heroin and retail fraud (second degree). 

Rochester Road and Hartland Street, Jan. 13, 11:54 p.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle without headlights and expired plate. Officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver consented to a search of her vehicle and officers discovered a pipe for smoking marijuana and cigarette papers used to smoke the marijuana. In the trunk of the vehicle, officers discovered a glass jar containing marijuana. The driver, a 23-year-old from Ferndale, was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. 

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

Rochester Road and Square Lake Road, Jan. 10, 7 a.m.: Officers responded to an accident scene. The responsible driver had a strong odor of intoxicants on his breath. The driver denied drinking but failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 30-year-old from Rochester Hills, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .11 percent.

East Big Beaver Rd and Rochester Road, Jan. 11, 2:21 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for an improper lane change. The driver had glassy eyes and odor of intoxicants coming from his breath. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver had two prior convictions for drunk driving. The driver, a 29-year-old from Highland, was arrested for operating while intoxicated (third offense). Breath test results were .11 percent.

Interstate-75 and Rochester Road, Jan. 11, 11:51 p.m.: Troy officers responded to a call of a possible drunk driver. Witness reported the vehicle was swerving and driving on the shoulder of the road. Officers located the vehicle and detected an overwhelming odor of intoxicants coming from the interior. The driver could not produce a valid driver’s license and was suspended. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 32-year-old from Detroit, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license. Breath test results were .19 percent.

Charrington Drive and Rochester Road, Jan. 12, 3:19 a.m.: Officers stopped a suspicious vehicle occupied at a closed business. Officers detected a strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver was found to have a suspended license. The driver, a 39-year-old from Shelby Township, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license. Breath test results were .10 percent.

Interstate-75 and Rochester Road, Jan. 12, 8:58 p.m.: Troy officers were dispatched on a possible drunk driver. Officers located the vehicle and observed it swerving across all three lanes of travel. The driver had slurred speech and bloodshot glassy eyes. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 43-year-old from Clarkston, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

East Maple Road and Hartshorn Street, Jan. 13, 12:50 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver had an odor of intoxicants coming from his person. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 35-year-old from Clawson, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .13 percent.

Larcenies

Petsmart, 734 E. Big Beaver Rd., Jan. 11, 12:30-1:50 p.m.: Complainant reported she left her iPad in a shopping cart, and when she returned it was missing.
