Car Parts Ripped Off From Dealerships

Stolen credit card information was used to buy parts at two different Troy dealerships, according to Troy Police.

TROY, MI — Car parts were fraudulently purchased at a pair of Troy car dealerships earlier this month. Chrysler Suburban and Somerset Buick were both victimized on Dec. 1 by customers using illegally obtained credit card information to make the purchases, according to Troy Police Department reports.

Dollar figures of the two transactions were not listed in reports. It’s unclear if the two incidents are related. A call from Patch to the police department for additional details was not immediately returned.

At Chrysler Suburban, which is located at 1790 Maplelawn Drive, a parts manager took a call from a customer, who ordered a fascia and a grill for his car. The customer used a credit card to pay for the parts and a man later came to pick them up, reports said.

The owner of the credit card account later contacted Chrysler Suburban and said that he did not give anyone permission to use the account, reports said. A similar scenario played out at Somerset Buick.

A parts consultant received a call from a customer, who purchased Goodyear Tires for his car. Reports said the customer provided a credit card number to complete the order but it was declined.

The customer then provided a second credit card number, which approved the purchase. A man later came into Somerset Buick, which is located at 1850 W. Maple Road, and picked up the tires. The owner of the credit card account contacted the dealership and told them that he did not give anyone permission to use his credit card account.
