“Miriah,” says one of her workers, “is a bundle of joy who brings sunshine to the darkest day. She’s a funny, sweet girl who is always smiling and loves to laugh, giggle, play outside, and make friends wherever she goes…In some ways, she seems a little younger than many of today’s thirteen-year-olds. And Miriah enjoys playing with kids who are a few years younger.”
“I like to play all kinds of games,” Miriah shares in her video for M.A.R.E. (Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange at mare.org, where her case number is C09338), “like Monopoly and Don’t Break the Ice. On a tablet, I like the game ‘Granny.’”

“And, in school, I like science and math. When my teacher says, ‘Now it’s time for math,’ I say, ‘Yay!’”
On weekends, Miriah enjoys swimming and playing volleyball. She is also part of her church youth group, and she sings in the church choir.

“When we get together,” her worker says, “Miriah loves telling me about the religious and Christmas songs she sings in the choir. She says she’d like to be a singer when she’s grown – or a therapist.”
Her worker continues, “When I visit with Miriah, she is always very considerate and respectful, mindful of other people. She always asks, ‘Can I get you anything?’ And she’ll show me what she’s working on in school. She always has something positive to share!”
Her workers believe that Miriah requires a two-parent household and a family that is strong, but sensitive; loving, but still utilizing discipline.
“She would do best in a home with younger children, because she relates well to them,” her worker explains. “And she requires a family that is located in an area with adequate mental health services – a family who will be understanding of her past…with a strong understanding of trauma and how it affects a child.”
Miriah has her own dreams.
“I’d like to go to China,” she shares, “because it is someplace different, and I could speak English to the Chinese people. I’d like to be a mom and have a good husband.”
But Miriah would be most excited about finding a forever family, especially one with “other kids in the house.”
“My family would take me out and do things with me,” she says, “like go to the zoo or the park.”
“And,” she concludes, “I will feel like I belong because they will be nice to me. Family means ‘happy and nice.’”
