By Honey Murray

“Jorge is almost eighteen and doesn’t have a lot of time left to become adopted,” says his worker. “He really wants a family of his own!”

In his Michigan Resource Adoption Exchange video (he is #C09304 at www.mare.org), Jorge talks about the kind of family he hopes to find and shares that he is open to any family configuration.

“It doesn’t matter,” he says. “I’d like to have a mom and a dad, so I could get the actual experience…And, what I’m looking for in a family is just a family who will care about me….”

“I’d like to have fun with them and do things I’ve never had the chance to do with an actual family.”

“I actually do well with animals,” he continues. “One day I was hoping to have, like, a Husky…because they’re so,” he grins, chuckling, “so adorable. And, I also love cats, too.”

“Jorge is a really great kid,” his worker says. “He’s warm, funny, likeable, helpful, and he likes to tell jokes. He can be a little shy at first, but he’s friendly and willing to talk and share. He smiles a lot.”

“He also likes to read,” she adds, “And he is smart and diligent in school.”

A junior in high school who receives good grades, Jorge loves science.

“I’d like to go to Michigan State,” he says, “…and be a chemical engineer or a forensic scientist. I’m an art-and-science kind of guy.”

Jorge is creative and enjoys photography and music.

“I like electronic, heavy metal, alternative music: pretty much, anything that sounds good,” he smiles. “I also like to play video games (his favorite is Batman) and do puzzles, like Sudoku.”

When he’s with friends, Jorge enjoys skateboarding, telling jokes, playing games and going to the theater at the mall to see funny movies.

He dreams of going to Japan someday.

But, mostly, he dreams of a family, which he defines as “a group of people who care about each other.”

“Jorge would do well as an only or youngest child,” says his worker, “with a parent or parents who willing to support the services that will help him continue to thrive.”

“And,” Jorge muses, “we could experience things I’ve never experienced.”
