City Turns Away 2 Applicants Seeking to Run for Troy Mayor in February

Ed Kempen and Dan Brake left paperwork with the City Clerk Monday afternoon.

On Monday afternoon, two Troy residents – Ed Kempen and Dan Brake – attempted to turn in paperwork to run for mayor on Feb. 26, 2013.

According to a press release sent late Monday afternoon from Concerned Troy Citizens, whose members spoke out against the city's decision to follow its charter instead of state statute at last Wednesday's special meeting, the City Clerk "walked away from the two candidates without accepting the paperwork under the watchful eye of Troy's City Attorney Lori Grigg Bluhm."

However, Troy City Clerk Aileen Bittner said the City could not accept the paperwork, since there is currently no election scheduled for February.
