Discarded Matches Spark $50,000 House Fire: Fire Department
The Troy Fire Department say that investigators discovered the matches that sparked the fire had been used to light incense.

TROY, MI — A bathroom fire caused upwards of $50,000 of damages to a Troy residence, according to a press release.
The call came in to the Troy Fire Department on Feb. 3 at 4:02 p.m. A caller at a residence reported there was a fire in the upper level bedroom, and that it “was spreading,” according to the press release. The caller also reported that no one was in the home.
The Troy Fire Department raced to the scene at 956 Jordan, and saw smoke coming out of the home. Firefighters made their inside the home and discovered a fire in the second floor bathroom. They extinguished the blaze and searched the home to make sure no one was inside.

While the fire was contained to the bathroom, smoke damage was evident all over the home and the residents cannot stay in the home, according to the fire department. The department reports that damage estimates might top $50,000. Fire Investigators determined the cause was matches, used to light incense, thrown into a second floor wastebasket.
