Drum & Bugle Corps Blast into Troy
45 Local Students Performing as Part of National Tour
With drums pounding, trumpets blazing and flags fluttering, Arman Turla of Troy will be among more than 600 musicians from across the country performing in a drum and bugle corps competition at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 at Troy Athens High School.
The Legends Drum Corps Invitational, open to the public, will feature seven corps from the U.S. and Canada. Troy Athens Band Boosters sponsor the event with Kalamazoo-based Legends Drum and Bugle Corps.
“We are thrilled to host this event in Troy for the third year,” said Marla Janness, event chair for the Troy Athens Band Boosters. “In addition to Arman, who’s an Athens graduate, nearly one-third of Legends’ 146 members hail from southeast Michigan, so this is the a chance for hometown supporters to see a performance.”

Drum corps shows are musical marching productions made up of brass, percussion and color guard with choreography and dance on the field.
“Each corps’ performance tells a story that draws you in through movement, music and artistry,” she said. “Drum corps and marching band fans in metro Detroit will appreciate the amazing talent of these groups.”

Drum corps members range in age from 14 to 22. They train and prepare at weekend camps throughout the school year and spend their entire summer rehearsing, traveling and performing throughout the country.
Performing in Troy will be Legends, Kalamazoo, MI; Spartans, Nashua, NH; 7th Regiment, New London, CT; Raiders, Burlington, NJ; Les Stentors, Sherbrooke, QC; LakeShoremen, Taylor, MI and the Diplomats, Windsor, Ont.
