Feline On Patrol: 'Pawfficer Badges' Reporting For Duty In Troy
Troy Police's newest officer has a name and is ready to serve. And cuddle. And keep the K9 in check.

TROY, MI – The Troy Police Department is nearly up to full-force now. Later this month, “Pawfficer Badges” will be on patrol. The department has adopted – and on Tuesday officially named – its first feline officer.
Pawfficer Badges has extreme duties. She will be handling – er, pawing – community policing, supervising the K9 unit and cuddles, announced the police department on Tuesday via its Facebook page.
The department chose the name Badges from a list suggested by elementary students. The other names were Pawfficer Katrina, Pawfficer Pawla and Pawfficer Donut.

Badges joins the force after a successful Twitter campaign to reach 10,000 followers. The department surpassed that goal in March, and now has some 12,000 followers on Twitter.
The Troy Police adopted the kitten after having “interviews” with several candidates who came to the station from the Michigan Humane Society. The kitten will not actually live at the station, but instead live with a dispatcher and make regular appearances at the station, a spokeswoman said. Thus, expect Badges photos to appear on the department’s Facebook and Twitter feeds.
