Hear from Employers and Experts on what to Expect in Your Job Search

The Troy Public Library will hold a free four-part Job Seekers series to help you improve your job search. Topics include resume writing, interview tips, an employer panel, and an introduction to library resources.

The Job Seekers series is in the Library’s Meeting Room on the following dates:

Wednesday, January 29, 6 pm: Resume Tips to Land the Job: Sara Kropinski, Troy Michigan Works

Resume looking a little stale? Is it in need of a good overhaul? Learn how to improve your resume to better market yourself, communicate your skills, and showcase why you are the best candidate for the job. You will hear from Sarah Kropinski, Workshop Coordinator at the Oakland County Michigan Works Troy office. Sarah specializes in resume writing, social media, and modern job search strategies.

Monday, February 3, 7 pm: Ace the Job Interview: Cathy Russ, Director Troy Public Library

Your resume and cover letter got you in the door. Now you have an interview, your chance to show that you will be a good fit for the company. Join Troy Public Library Director Cathy Russ as she helps you polish your job interview skills. In her career as a library administrator, Russ has been on both sides of the interviewing process. This workshop will help you prepare for your interview, manage your nerves, and craft the most effective answers to common interview questions.

  • Karen Stonehouse, District Manager, Engineering-A2/Detroit Territory (Kelly Services, Inc.)
  • Brian Kischnick, Troy City Manager (City of Troy)

Are you looking for a job or considering making a career change, but do not know what qualities employers are really seeking? Representatives from Beaumont, Kelly Services, and the City of Troy will speak frankly about what to emphasize when going on that all-important job interview.

Wednesday, February 5, 7 pm Using Library Resources In Your Job Search: The Library has resources for job seekers, many that can be accessed from home on your computer, tablet, or smartphone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Available resources include skills building, resume help, company information, and more. Online resources are only available to Troy residents with a valid Troy Public Library card. Join us to find out how to access–and get the most out of–these resources.
