Letter to the Editor: Troy Mayor 'is Misleading the Public with Outright Lies'

"Ms. Daniels should not confuse this recall with spiritual issues. ... This recall is an issue for for the people of Troy, and a matter of good government," writes Troy resident Diane Aulph.

Dear Editor:

I'm a God-fearing, reverent Christian. I am, since September 2001, a Proud USMC mom. I am voting for Romney.

I am also voting to Recall Mayor Janice Daniels.

I am writing because I want to express my anger with Mayor Daniels' campaign mailer. She is misleading the public with outright lies!

In her mailer, she called the Recall Team “extremists” and said that we convinced people to sign the petition that said that the Mayor wants to eliminate the police and fire departments. Simply not true. I collected signatures. The leadership of the recall team never instructed us to lie to residents!

By the way, Mayor Daniels did vote against the Library. She did call the city charter "whimsical." She did tell high school students to talk to a psychologist because she believes that gay people have a dangerous life style!

Mayor Daniels did break the break the rules of procedure by reading a 20-minute position paper lambasting former City Manager John Szerlag and city staff. After Mayor Daniels attacked John Szerlag, Oakland County Executive L.Brooks Patterson came to his aid and defended him. That's the first time Patterson ever did that! Patterson went on record defending Szerlag, telling Daniels that she was out of line with her tirade. Patterson said Mr. Szerlag was very competent and was a wonderful source for advice.

So it's another lie for Mayor Daniels to state that the leadership of Oakland County supports her. The picture of Daniels with Patterson is meant to confuse people.

As our fine former city manager told the Troy City Council: "Do not mix local city management with Federal or State management. Local issues are different from the National and State level issues. Do not mix them. It will not work."

So, Ms. Daniels should not confuse this recall with spiritual issues. We are saved by grace through faith, not by works, lest any man should boast.

This recall is an issue for for the people of Troy, and a matter of good government.

I hope we will all work to Recall Mayor Janice Daniels!
