New Year's Drunk Driving Arrests, Vacation Break-ins and More Crime in Troy

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Interstate-75 and Rochester Road, Jan. 1, 12:35 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver stated he did not have a driver’s license. The driver had blood shot eyes and admitted to drinking. The driver had a suspended license and prior convictions for drunk driving. The driver, a 57-year-old from Troy, failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated (third offense) and driving while license suspended (second offense). Breath test results were .13 percent.

Stephenson Highway and Maple Road, Jan. 1, 3:45 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for an improper lane change. The vehicle had a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. The driver had bloodshot glassy eyes and failed field sobrieties. Officers found Zig Zag rolling papers used to smoke marijuana in the vehicle as well as a small amount of marijuana on the floor of the vehicle. The driver, an 18-year-old from Sterling Heights, was arrested for operating under the presence of drugs, possession of marijuana, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

Square Lake Road and Livernois, Jan. 1, 5:13 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a driver asleep at the wheel in the intersection. Officers observed the driver passed out in the driver’s seat. The driver had glassy eyes and a very strong odor of intoxicants was coming from her person. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 23-year-old from Bloomfield Hills, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .10 percent.

Crooks Road and Corporate Drive, Jan. 2, 11:08 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a reckless driver whose vehicle had flat tires and was hitting the curb. Officer located the vehicle and observed it crossing lanes, almost striking oncoming traffic. The driver appeared confused with glassy bloodshot eyes. The driver admitted to taking Ambien before driving. The driver, a 59-year-old from Troy, failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating under the presence of drugs. A blood draw was conducted with results pending. 

West Fourteen Mile Road and John R Road, Jan. 3, 12:26 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for a red light violation. Officers detected an odor of marijuana and intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. The driver had bloodshot glassy eyes. The driver admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol. Officers discovered a small marijuana joint in the driver’s front pocket. The driver, a 24-year-old from Shelby Township failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana. Breath test results were .14 percent.

Interstate-75 and West Fourteen Mile Road, Jan. 3, 11:39 p.m.: Officers responded to a call of a possible drunk driver. Witnesses stated the vehicle was “all over the roadway.” Officers located the vehicle and observed it swerving. After stopping the vehicle the officers detected a strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. The driver had slurred speech and admitted to drinking. The driver, a 40-year-old from Detroit, failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .08 percent.

Interstate-75 and West Big Beaver Road, Jan. 4, 12:14 a.m.: Troy officers responded to an occupied vehicle in the ditch. The driver had slurred speech, glassy eyes and an odor of intoxicants on his breath. The driver admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana. The driver failed field sobrieties. Inside the vehicle officers found 2 baggies of marijuana, a marijuana pipe, a marijuana “grinder” and a liter of gin that was open. The driver, a 26-year-old from Woodhaven, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and open alcohol in motor vehicle. Breath test results were .13 percent. 

Rochester Road and Rankin Street, Jan. 4, 12:53 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle which was blockading traffic. The driver had bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his person. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, 33-year-old from Clawson was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .11 percent.

Coolidge Highway and West Big Beaver Road, Jan. 4, 1:12 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for an improper lane change. The driver had glassy eyes and a strong odor of intoxicants on her breath. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 44-year-old from Sterling Heights was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .12 percent.

Home invasions 

1000 block of Provincial Drive, Dec. 12 to Jan. 1, 10 a.m. to 7 a.m.: Resident reported he had been on vacation and when he returned he discovered his kitchen window smashed and his house had been ransacked. Resident reported that some watches, rings and earrings were missing.

3000 block of Cedar Crest, Jan. 3-4, 4 p.m. to 8 a.m.: Resident reported someone attempted to gain entry to her home through the sliding glass patio doors. Resident reported the patio door’s lock had been tampered with and one of the glass sliding doors was off the track. No entry was gained into the home.

Auto/vehicle thefts

2000 block of Lovington, Dec. 31, 1:15 a.m.: Resident reported he parked his Chevy Trailblazer in the complex parking lot. When he returned he discovered the driver side door handle had been tampered with and the steering column was damaged. 

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

2000 block of Adrienne Drive, Jan. 3, 11-11:20 a.m.: Resident reported he was advised by RPM collections he owed $1,000 to Direct TV. Resident reported he doesn’t have an account with Direct TV.

Drugs/narcotics

West Long Lake Road and Crooks Road, Jan. 1, 2:52 a.m.: Officers responded to an accident scene where the responsible driver had a suspended driver’s license. In the vehicle officers found several pill bottles not prescribed to the driver containing Adderall and Alprazolam. The driver, a 30-year-old from Shelby Township was arrested for driving while license suspended and possession of prescription narcotics.

Lake Charnwood Boulevard and Beach Road, Dec. 31, 5:34 p.m.: Officers stopped a vehicle driven by a suspect with a felony warrant. The interior of the vehicle smelled strongly of marijuana. Officers searched the vehicle and found 3 baggies of marijuana, 1 “joint,” a grinder used for marijuana and a “one hit” pipe. The suspect, a 44-year-old from Troy, was arrested for possession of marijuana.

Larcenies from autos 

5000 block of Wright, Jan. 2, 7:45–11:30 p.m.: Resident reported his pain medication was stolen from his unlocked vehicle in the driveway.

Malicious destruction of property

1000 block of Charlevois, Dec. 27-28, 12 noon: Resident reported for the third time in the last three months someone has knocked down and damaged her triple mailbox. 

Weapons offenses 

Interstate-75 and West Big Beaver Road, Jan. 1, 4:19 p.m.: Complainant reported he was driving north on  and traffic was stopped due to an accident, merging down to one lane. Complainant reported once he cleared through the traffic an unknown pick-up pulled next to him and the driver pointed a handgun at him shouting obscenities.
