Oakland County Man Accused Of Shooting, Killing 8-Year-Old Sister

An Oakland County man has been accused of shooting and killing his 8-year-old sister in a crime police said does not appear accidental.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — An Oakland County man has been accused of shooting and killing his 8-year-old sister, Southfield police said Thursday morning in a news conference.

Gyasi Arnez Stribling, 20, was arraigned Wednesday with assault with intent to commit murder and felony firearm, Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said Thursday.

Barren said he expects those charges to be amended to open murder, explaining that Stribling was charged by Oakland County prosecutors and arraigned prior to his victim, Bailey Singleton, dying Wednesday evening.

The shooting took place around 7 p.m. Sunday at Twelve North Apartments on 12 Mile Road, near Northwestern Highway.

Bailey was originally in critical condition, police said, after undergoing surgery. Barren said Thursday that the girl had been shot in the head with a handgun.

Police had said a 20-year-old sibling of the victim had been arrested but did not provide a name until Thursday.

Barren did not provide a potential motive, saying that details from the case will come out in time and throughout court proceedings. He said that evidence suggests the shooting was not accidental.

Stribling will appear in court again on Jan. 20 for a preliminary examination, Barren said.
