Oakland County Parks And Rec: Golf Course Opening Dates TBD
Governor's executive order means opening dates for golf courses remain up in the air.
OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — The golf season is on hold for five Oakland County Parks and Recreation golf courses. Opening dates for Glen Oaks Golf Course in Farmington Hills, Lyon Oaks Golf Course in Lyon Township, Red Oaks Golf Course in Madison Heights, Springfield Oaks Golf Course in Davisburg and White Lake Oaks Golf Course in White Lake are still to be determined following Governor Gretchen Whitmer's Executive Order 2020-21, which suspended activities not required to sustain life.
The courses are required to be closed under the current order. Opening dates will be determined based on direction and dates provided by Whitmer, the county said in a press release.
Currently, OCPR golf course staff is only allowed to perform minimal maintenance under the executive order. Additionally, all hiring initiatives for the parks system have been suspended.

The county is working remotely on policies and procedures to best facilitate a safe atmosphere for staff and golfers once the courses are allowed to open, the press release said. The parks and recreation department is also monitoring the golf industry best practices during COVID-19 through the Michigan Golf Alliance, which is comprised of the Michigan Golf Course Association, Golf Association of Michigan, Michigan Professional Golf Association of Michigan, Michigan Turfgrass Foundation, Michigan Golf Course Superintendents’ Association and the Greater Michigan Chapter, CMAA.
"Thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing you on the greens in the future," the agency told golfers in the press release.
