Resident loses $1,550 in international email scam

A Troy resident filed a report on Aug. 30 after receiving an email from a family member saying he was in London and had been robbed. The resident wired $1,550 to London before receiving an email from the family member saying his email account had been hacked and he was safe in the United States.

Suspected drunken driver rear-ends, flips SUV

Troy officers responded to the area of Interstate 75 and Wattles Road after receiving a report of a two-car injury accident.

Upon arriving, officers found an SUV upside down in the median ditch and a Buick also in the ditch about 100 yards in front of the SUV. According to the report, the three occupants of the SUV were able to climb out of the vehicle and tell the officer they had been rear-ended by the Buick.

The driver of the Buick, according to the report, said he was texting and driving when the accident occurred. The 23-year-old Auburn Hills man, however, had slurred speech, glassy and bloodshot eyes and smelled strongly of intoxicants, according to the report.

The man was arrested for operating while intoxicated; his preliminary breath test results were 0.20 percent – 2.5 times the legal limit of 0.08.  The man has one prior drinking and driving arrest. 

Two of the three occupants of the SUV were transported to the hospital.

Thieves steal flea and tick treatment

A store manager at reported on Aug. 30 that someone had stolen $349.97 worth of flea and tick treatment from a display box in the store.

Parents make teen clean up park he vandalized

A Troy officer was dispatched to in Troy Sunday evening after receiving reports that a juvenile was spraying the park jungle gym with food coloring. Upon arriving, several adults pointed out the culprit – a 14-year-old male – to the officer.

According to the media release, the teen's parents brought a bucket and cleaning supplies to the park, and the teen cleaned up the jungle gym.
