Troy Police Fatally Shoot Man Who Threatened Officers With Knives
The suspect has been identified as a 23-year-old.

TROY, MI – Police shot and killed a man after he reportedly threatened officers with knives, police said. Officers first tried to subdue the 23-year-old suspect with a Taser. It's been more than 20 years since police had to fatally wound a suspect, police said.
Troy Police on Tuesday identified the suspect as Robert George Issa.
During a press briefing, Troy Police Troy Police Lt. Josh Jones said that officers were summoned to Issa's home along Saddle Brook Court at 7:23 a.m., Monday, for a domestic violence situation. Family members reported that Issa was in a "screaming, psychotic state," reported Jones. Family members had locked themselves in their bedrooms.

When officers arrived, Issa ran after an officer in a marked police car. Another officer, in a separate unmarked police car, arrived and then distracted the Issa briefly, Jones said. The Issa turned his attention back on the other officer, who was outside of his police vehicle.
The officer warned Issa to stop, but he came toward the officer. The officer then unsuccessfully tried to Taser the man. The officer then fired four to five shots at the man. The wounded man was taken to Troy Beaumont Hospital, where he died.

Issa had two knives, one of which was a kitchen knife, Jones said. Police had been summoned to the home three previous times since July 2017.
Police did not identify the officer involved in the shooting, but described him as a veteran officer. The shooting will be investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, Jones said.
