Police Shut Down Overcrowded Mon Jin Lau Halloween Party, Arrest 2 Men

The Troy Police and Fire departments arrested two men and shut down the popular Troy restaurant due to "massive overcrowding."

Troy Police officers were dispatched to a traffic complaint at Mon Jin Lau restaurant just before 10:30 p.m. Oct. 31. According to a media release from the Troy Police Department, the caller told dispatch there was a traffic jam at Maple and Stephenson caused by vehicles trying to enter the popular restaurant's parking lot.

Upon arriving, officers requested the Troy Fire Department investigate the building for overcrowding. A Fire Department lieutenant determined both the restaurant and a tent on the property were overcrowded and shut down the restaurant. Officers stood by while Mon Jin Lau security helped patrons exit the restaurant.

While the restaurant was being shut down due to overcrowding, a Troy officer assisted a security guard in attempting to escort an intoxicated and uncooperative patron from the building. The 30-year-old Mount Clemens man received several warnings to leave the premises before he shoved an officer, police said. He was asked again to leave, but refused and continued to be uncooperative, by first attempting to flee and then refusing to get into a Troy Police patrol vehicle, according to the media release. The man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
