The Orchestra Association of Troy High (OATH), a non-profit parent support group, is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Troy High School 5K & Fun Run scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 at Boulan Park.
“This is our second 5K fundraiser to benefit the Troy High School Orchestra, which is truly a community jewel," THS Orchestra Director Alan MacNair said. "Our district has one of the top 100 music programs in the nation, and students, parents and community leaders are working to keep our orchestra strong in the face of potential fine arts budget cuts."

He added: "It’s an important part of our students’ daily curriculum, and a highly positive selling point for the City of Troy.”
Last year’s race was an overwhelming success, bringing students, parents, businesses and people from our community together toward a common goal—keeping the music alive in Troy Schools.

“The event was as much about raising awareness as raising money,” said parent volunteer and 2011 OATH president Nora Otero, and the 2011 5K accomplished both.
“We’ve set the bar high and are looking to involve even more people this year,” 2012 5K Chairperson Leigh Huang said.

Early race registration is a bargain at $20 per adult runner and includes a race T-shirt, a certified course, medals for the top competitors and orchestral entertainment!
Adults may register online now at www.RunReg.com or print the mail-in registration form (attached as a PDF file to this article). Students must use a paper registration form and can take advantage of special student pricing of just $15.00 per runner with a student I.D number.
On-site registration on the day of the race is also available for $25 beginning at 8 a.m. Pre-registrants are guaranteed a student-designed collectible race T-shirt, and due to the popularity of last year’s race, early registration is highly recommended!
Not sure you can run an entire 5K race? Another great option for race participants ages 12 and under is the event’s FREE Fun Run, which will be held during the 5K on a shorter course.
Make music!
As added race-day motivation, students from Troy High School’s three orchestras are planning mini musical performances for the runners.
“We want this to be a unique event for both competitive racers from all of Metro Detroit, and for our Troy School District families,” said Julie Kohring, 2012 OATH president.
All are invited to participate as planners, entertainers, runners, spectators or sponsors. For more information, visit the OATH website at www.TroyHighOrchestra.org, or find us on Facebook. See you at the starting line!
