I-75 Traffic Shift In Oakland County This Weekend Postponed

The I-75 modernization is entering a new stage, but an early delay has pushed things back.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI —Another I-75 traffic shift was supposed to be coming this weekend in Oakland County, but Michigan Department of Transportation officials have said that update has now been postponed.

MDOT said the delay was because required equipment was not ready. MDOT is hopeful the project will be rescheduled for next week, but it is still unknown when it was begin.

The project was supposed to begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, with northbound I-75 being reduced to one lane to allow road crews to shift all traffic to the southbound lanes between 8 Mile Road and I-696.

The Michigan Department of Transportation hopes the shift will be done in a day, allowing for the reconstruction of the northbound lanes. Two lanes of northbound and southbound I-75 will be open during peak travel times during the 2020 construction season, MDOT said in a press release.

The northbound I-75 ramp to eastbound I-696 will close until early November. Ramp traffic is to be detoured on 8 Mile Road to northbound Van Dyke Avenue, then to eastbound I-696.
