Troy Athens Bands Host Percussion and Winterguard Show

Percussion ensembles and winterguard units from all over the state will compete on February 27, 2016 at Troy Athens High School.

More than 30 percussion and color guard groups-including Athens Alias Winterguard SA and AA units-will perform at the Michigan Color Guard Circuit (MCGC) competition at Troy Athens High School on Saturday, February 27, 2016. Athens’ associated middle school unit, AKA Winterguard, will also present their show. Percussion ensembles and color guard units from all over the state will compete in local, independent and, scholastic divisions which also include collegiate and world classifications.
Indoor percussion ensembles compete using a variety of percussive instruments and other props to bring music and themes to life while displaying technique, creativity, and expression. Indoor color guard competitions feature dance movements and spinning of flags, sabres or rifles in a visual representation of recorded music.
Troy Athens Alias winterguard will compete in the Michigan Color Guard Circuit (MCGC) for its 26th consecutive season this year. Alias is one of the oldest winterguard programs in the circuit. Troy Athens has two competitive winter guard teams (Scholastic AA class and Scholastic A class); both teams compete against schools from all over the state of Michigan. This year, Alias AA will perform to “Timekeeper” and SA will perform to “The Fighter.”
Percussion begins at 3:00 pm and winterguard at 5:30. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6.00 for students (through high school with ID), and $6.00 for seniors (65 and over), with children under 5 free and are available at the gym entrance. Proceeds benefit the Athens band program. Troy Athens is located at 4333 John R Road.
