Troy Baker's Role in 'Batman v. Superman' Is a Piece of Cake

Sarah Williams, who created the huge cake for the scene at Lex Luthor's party, even got a cameo appearance.

TROY, MI – How much sweet buttercream frosting did Troy artisan cake maker Sarah Williams whip up for that huge cake at Lex Luthor’s party in the Michigan-filmed “Batman v. Superman: The Dawn of Justice”?

Twenty-five pounds.

Williams also used 44½ pounds of rolled-out fondant, two pounds of sugary royal icing and six pounds of cake decorating gum paste.

Williams told the Detroit Free Press it took her 100 hours to create the cake. She was paid $5,000.

It was featured in a scene where Bruce Wayne, aka Batman (Ben Affleck), and Clark Kent, aka Superman (Henry Cavill) meet the first time at a party thrown by the diabolical Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) to raise money to replace the Metropolis Library. (True fans of the Warner Bros./DC Comics franchise will remember that Superman and General Zod destroyed the library in their showdown in “Man of Steel.”)

Williams even gets a cameo appearance wheeling the 4-foot-by-2-foot-deep cake into Luthor’s party, which was shot at Michigan State University’s Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. The cake, based on the Greek Parthenon, featured 70 columns and griffins on the roof that were small enough to fit on a dime.

Williams got the role by chance. A student in one of her cake-decorating classes had a job working on the movie and gave her name to the production company.

“This is definitely a first,” she told WXYZ-TV.

She said Affleck was impressed by her work

"He was awed by the cake ... like everyone else, which was awesome to have somebody of that caliber be excited about my cake,” she told the TV station.

Security guard treated the cake “like a work of art” with around-the-clock protection.

“They actually had people protecting the cake when people went on brakes so no one accidentally bumped into it,” she said.

Williams, who operates Cakes By Sarah Williams from her Troy home, kept the secret of her involvement in the movie for more than 18 months. On Facebook Friday, the day of the world premiere of “Batman v. Superman,” she finally made the big reveal and promised to share pictures with her followers.

“It was an amazing experience, and I'll be sharing a load of in-progress pictures in the coming days, and talking about my amazing experience on set!” she said.
