Troy Fire Chief Bill Nelson Honored at 9/11 Ceremony in Lansing

Troy Fire Chief Bill Nelson and his wife, Doris, were guests of Rep. Marty Knollenberg (R-Troy) at Tuesday's event.

The Michigan House of Representatives on Tuesday hosted a ceremony honoring first responders and members of the military from Michigan who died in the line of duty in 2011-12.

State Rep. Marty Knollenberg (R-Troy) attended the ceremony with his guests, Troy Fire Chief Bill Nelson, who was , and Chief Nelson's wife, Doris Nelson. Chief Nelson was awarded Michigan Fire Chief of the Year based on his accomplishments and contributions to the fire service throughout his career.

"It was an honor to have Michigan Fire Chief of the Year Bill Nelson with me to be honored at the ceremony," Knollenberg said. "The citizens in my district are very blessed to have him as a leader in our community. I want to thank Fire Chief Nelson and all local fire, police and county sheriff departments for their courage and dedication to our state."

Following the presentation of the colors by a Michigan State Police Honor Guard, the names of fallen soldiers and responders were read and honored. The ceremony is an annual event in the Michigan House.
