Troy Man Charged In Standoff With Police

Bryce Williams barricaded himself in his parents' home for more than 13 hours earlier this week, police said.

TROY, MI – The accused gunman who police say barricaded himself in his parents' home for more than 13 hours on Tuesday was charged Thursday on four felony counts. Bryce Williams, 36, was arraigned on felonious assault and weapons-related charges in district court.

The standoff between police and Williams began about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, when police arrived at his parents' Brooklawn Drive home. When officers arrived, Williams' mother, who phoned police for help, was outside the home. Gunshots were heard from inside the home, police said.

A short time later, Willams' father was able to flee the home, and told police that his son had at least three handguns, authorities said. Throughout the morning and afternoon, police said they had communication with Williams.

"Williams was clearly agitated and aggressive, continued to fire rounds in the home, and refused to surrender to officers," reported police. After a period of time without communications with officers, police busted in the home's front door and deployed a robot. Police discovered Williams had barricaded himself into a bedroom.

Eventually, after police used a non-flammable gas weapon, Williams put down his weapon and left the home. Police took him into custody at that time. No one, including his parents, was injured in the standoff, which ended at 5 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
