Troy Police Respond to Auto/Vehicle Theft Calls

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Auto/vehicle thefts

1000 block of Winthrop, Nov. 16, 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.: Complainant advised his 2004 Dodge Intrepid was parked on the street. When he returned he discovered his vehicle had been stolen.

2000 block of Charter, Nov. 16-17, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.: Complainant reported he parked his vehicle in the apartment complex parking lot. When he returned he found the passenger and driver’s side door locks damaged and the steering column cracked.

Breaking and entries 

4000 block of Birch Run Drive, Nov. 15, 3-4:59 p.m.: Residents reported when they returned to their home they discovered the front door had been kicked in and the master bedroom was ransacked. Missing was a jewelry box and a pillowcase.

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

Saks Fifth Avenue, 2901 W. Big Beaver Rd., Nov. 15, 2:10 p.m.: Loss prevention advised two suspects were attempted to purchase $6,413 in merchandise with a Discover card. The Discover card would not swipe and when contacted, Discover advised the name on the credit card did not match the account holder’s. The suspects were arrested and one of the suspects was found to have additional fraudulent credit cards in his wallet. The suspects, a 24-year-old from Taylor and a 28-year-old from River Rouge were arrested for possession of counterfeit object, illegal use of credit card, and identity theft.  

Drugs/narcotics

Nordstrom, 2705 W. Big Beaver Rd., Nov. 15, 7:39 p.m.: Troy officers were contacted by mall security which had a suspect that was becoming disorderly. The suspect was intoxicated and started to get aggressive with officers. Officers placed the suspect under arrest and the suspect started to fight with officers. The suspect was found to have cocaine on his person. The suspect, a 41-year-old from Sterling Heights was arrested for possession of cocaine, resisting officer, disorderly conduct, and trespass.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs 

John R Road and East Big Beaver Road, Nov. 16, 1:14 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. The vehicle had a very strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. Officers found prescription narcotics and marijuana in the vehicle. The driver, a 38-year-old from Macomb Township was arrested for possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana, and operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .13 percent.

Dequindre Road and East Wattles Road, Nov. 16, 5:07 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to a person asleep at the wheel. The vehicle was stopped in the middle of the roadway with the driver asleep. The driver had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person. The driver, a 30-year-old from Sterling Heights admitted to drinking. The driver failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .18 percent.

Dequindre Road and Denise Drive, Nov. 16, 7:74 p.m.: Officers were investigating an accident scene and observed a driver arrive at the scene to check on a friend. This driver had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person. The driver admitted to drinking and had an odor of marijuana coming from his person as well. Officers discovered a small baggie of marijuana coming from his pants pocket. The driver, a 21-year-old from Sterling Heights, failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana. Breath test results were .12 percent. 

Coolidge Highway and Cameo, Nov. 16, 11:31 p.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle after observing it almost strike a curb. The driver had slurred speech and admitted drinking. The driver, a 30-year-old from Sawyer, MI failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. A Blood draw was conducted with results pending.

Larcenies

Troy Community Center, Nov. 15, 4:15– 5:15 p.m.: Complainant reported he placed his gym bag in a secured locker. When the complainant returned he discovered his locker had been tampered with and $80 cash was missing from his wallet.

Larcenies from autos

1000 block of Milverton, Nov. 15-16, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.: Resident reported his hunting clothing and equipment was stolen from the bed of his truck. Value of missing items $1,500. 

Troy Sports Arena, 1819 E. Big Beaver Rd., Nov. 16, 4:15-5:10 p.m.: Complainant reported her vehicle was parked in the parking lot when she returned her passenger side window was shattered. Complainant advised her radar detector was missing.

2000 block of Foxchase, Nov. 17, 12 midnight to 10 a.m.: Resident reported his vehicle was parked in the drive over night. When he returned, he discovered the driver’s side rear window smashed. Resident reported an Apple laptop, wallet and iPod were missing.

2000 block of Normandy, Nov. 16-17, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Complainant reported his 2004 Ford Taurus was parked on the street. When complainant returned to his vehicle he discovered his passenger side front window shattered and his radar detector, iPod, GPS and in dash radio face plate was taken.

Malicious destruction of property 

1000 block of Baker Ct., Nov. 15, 6:30 p.m.: Resident reported he put paint cans out for the garbage. The garbage collectors did not take the cans. Resident reported someone opened the paint cans and poured the paint on his driveway.

Minors and alcohol

Dequindre Road and Denise Drive, Nov. 16, 7:48 p.m.: Troy officers were dispatched to a possible drunk driver that had just rear-ended a vehicle. Officers located the driver who admitted to drinking. The driver had slurred speech and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 20-year-old from Warren, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .17%.

West Big Beaver Road and Livernois, Nov. 16, 11:52 p.m.: Troy officers were dispatched on a possible drunk driver which had just sideswiped a vehicle without stopping. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. Officers could detect an odor of intoxicants coming from the driver’s breath. The driver had slurred speech and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 16-year-old from Troy, was arrested for operating while intoxicated with blood alcohol content between .02-.07 percent (zero tolerance). Breath test results were .07 percent.

Retail fraud

There were six reported retail frauds during the time period covered by this report with four being misdemeanor charges and two being felony charges. All merchandise was recovered.
