Troy Police Respond to Drunk Driving Calls and More

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Auto/vehicle thefts

920 John R Rd., Dec. 4-5, 8 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Complainant reported he parked his 1999 Grand Prix in the lot. When he returned the vehicle was missing.

Sears, 300 W. 14 Mile Rd., Dec. 5, 12 noon to 1 p.m.: Complainant report she parked her Dodge Stratus in the lot. When she returned she discovered her driver’s door lock had been tampered with and her ignition cylinder had been removed from the steering column.

Breaking and entries

Kelly Services, 999 W. Big Beaver Rd., Dec. 5, 7:09 p.m.: Complainant reported Brinks Armored courier dropped off a cash bag containing $750. Additionally, she had $300 in cash from the day’s sales. Complainant stated she was unable to access the safe and hid the monies under her desk and left her office locked. When complainant returned the next day she discovered her office door pried open and the money totaling $1,050 missing.

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

400 block of Coachman, Dec. 6, 6–9 a.m.: Complainant reported someone used her checking account to pay bills on-line to Direct TV. 

1000 block of Pond Ridge, Nov. 6, 12 noon: Resident reported he ran his credit information and found several credit cards were listed on his credit report which he did not open. Accounts were opened at Macy’s, Sam’s Club, Office Depot, Barclay’s and American Eagle.

5000 block of Allison, Nov. 22, 12 noon: Resident reported he was contacted by a bank regarding an outstanding credit card balance. Resident stated he never opened an account with the bank. 

Drugs/narcotics

West Big Beaver Road and Interstate-75, Dec. 7, 11:16 p.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle driving without its headlights. Officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to recently smoking marijuana. Officers discovered a small baggie containing marijuana in the console of the vehicle. The driver, a 25-year-old from Warren, was cited for possession of marijuana.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

West Wattles and Finch Road, Dec. 4, 3:44 p.m.: Officers responded to an accident scene. The responsible driver had rear-ended the other driver and then left the scene on foot. Officers located the driver who was injured and could not understand simple commands form officers. The driver was transported to the hospital for treatment and a blood draw to check for drugs/alcohol. 

East Big Beaver Road and Daley, Dec. 5, 11:38 p.m.: Officers stopped a vehicle after observing it strike the curb. The driver had slurred speech and smelled of intoxicants. The driver, a 30-year-old from Sterling Heights admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated.  A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

East Big Beaver Road and Daley, Dec. 5, 12:50 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for a red light violation. The vehicle had an odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 31-year-old from Chesterfield, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .14 percent.

1980 E. Big Beaver Rd., Dec. 5, 9:52 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to an accident with a possible drunk driver. The responsible driver was observed with black burns on his lips that were consistent with smoking crack cocaine. The driver denied using drugs but failed field sobrieties and fell asleep while in the presence of the officers. The driver, a 32-year-old from Roseville, was arrested for operating with the presence of drugs. A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

3651 Rochester Rd., Dec. 6, 11:57 p.m.: Troy officers responded to a call of a possible drunk driver passed out at the wheel. Officers located the vehicle running in the parking lot with the driver asleep. Officers detected a very strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 26-year-old from Lenox, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .19 percent. 

Interstate-75 and West Fourteen Mile Road, Dec. 7, 4:34 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 27-year-old from Oxford, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .22 percent.

Stephenson Highway and West Fourteen Mile Road, Dec. 8, 2:32 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. The officers detected a strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 56-year-old from Warren, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .18 percent. 

Interstate-75 and Rochester Road, Dec. 8, 4:58 a.m.: Troy officers responded to an accident. The responsible driver was confused how the accident happened. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 27-year-old from Roseville, was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .13 percent.

Embezzlement 

Macy’s, 500 W. 14 Mile Rd., Dec. 4, 1:22 p.m.: Loss prevention officers reported the suspect, a Macy’s employee, was observed making three transactions with different customers. In these transactions the suspect only charged the customers for 2-3 items while placing 8-13 items in the shopping bags. The suspect admitted to the embezzlement totaling $1,490.95. The suspect, a 26-year-old from Detroit was arrested for embezzlement of business property. The customers, two 35-year-olds and a 29-year-old, all from Detroit, were arrested for retail fraud (first degree).

Larcenies

Panera Bread, 823 E. Big Beaver Rd., Dec. 1, 1:25-1:30 p.m.: Complainant reported she paid for her food and left the store. Complainant realized she did not have her wallet and returned to Panera, however it was not there. Complaint called her credit card company and was advised $8,000 worth of charges had just been made on her credit cards.

2000 block of Locksley, Dec. 6-7, 10:00 p.m. to 12:40 p.m.: Resident reported his nativity scene was stolen from the front lawn.

3000 block of Fernleigh, Dec. 7, 9:20–11:15 a.m.: Resident reported his holiday lawn decorations were stolen.

Larcenies from autos

Joe Kools, 1835 E. Big Beaver Rd., Dec. 5, 5:15–6:10 p.m.: Complainant reported his vehicle was parked in the lot. When he returned the rear passenger side window was smashed out and his radar detector was missing.

Maggianos, 2085 W. Big Beaver Rd., Dec. 6, 7:45–11:39 p.m.: Complainant reported her Ford F-150 was parked in the lot. When she returned the passenger window was smashed out and her duffle bag containing clothes was missing.
