TROY, MI — More than 50 firefighters from four stations worked for over eight hours Sunday to put out a fire at a Midwest Acorn Nut Co., 501 Executive Drive, Troy fire officials said early Monday.

Authorities said no injuries or deaths were reported as a result of the fire, the cause of which remains under investigation, but extensive damage was sustained to the building. Complete damage estimates are unknown at this time, authorities said.

Fire crews from the Troy Fire Department were dispatched to the fire around 11:22 a.m. and found the building on fire with flames through the roof upon arrival, according to fire officials.

A large amount of fire and smoke made the entry of firefighters into the building unsafe, officials said. Crews attempted to put the fire out while maintaining an exterior position, officials said, but the warehouse was filled with cardboard boxes, wood pallets and other combustibles materials that made the fire difficult to extinguish.

When the fire was brought under control, crews began searching and extinguishing smaller fires within the building, the department said.
