Metro Detroit, MI — Officials are expected to lift an air-quality alert Sunday after a day of sizzling temperatures Saturday.

The air-quality alert was in effect in effect until midnight Saturday in several southeast Michigan counties, including Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, Monroe and St. Clair, including the cities of Detroit, Warren, Pontiac, Port Huron and Monroe, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality said.

DEQ said elevated levels of ozone could put pollutants into the unhealthy range for some groups.

Cleaner air is expected Sunday and "good" air quality is forecast, the DEQ said. On Monday, winds may change back to a southerly direction possibly allowing pollution levels to reach the "moderate" level, but higher levels are not expected at this time.

When air quality warnings are in effect, active children and adults, and people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, are encouraged to limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
