The criminal complaint cited an unnamed witness who told police that Cruz admitted to shooting Lutgens in an attempted robbery following a botched drug deal. Cruz and Reagan asked for the witness's help to bring items stolen from Lutgens to Cruz’s apartment, which she refused, the complaint said.

Reagan and Cruz took Lutgen's rental car and “ditched” it near Cruz’s apartment, the complaint alleged.
