Black Bear Sighting Confirmed In Burnsville: Photos

Burnsville officials are asking residents in the southeast portion of the city to not leave pets or small children unattended.

BURNSVILLE, MN — Police officers confirmed reports of a black bear sighting in southeast Burnsville Thursday. "Officers could 'bare-ly' believe their eyes early this morning," the city joked on Facebook.

A resident on Rushmore Court reported a large black bear in their front yard just before 5:30 a.m., according to Police Clips.

The bear was last seen entering a heavily wooded area in south Burnsville.

Officials said the news shouldn't cause alarm, as the bear was not agitated or aggressive. However, residents in the area are asked to be vigilant of their surroundings and not leave pets or small children unattended.

Black bears usually try to avoid people. However, if the bear appears to be aggressive or agitated, call 911.

Otherwise, authorities say the best course of action is to avoid the bear, report it to the DNR, and allow it to leave the area naturally.
