Burnsville To Hold Juneteenth Celebration
Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of slavery in the U.S. on June 19, 1865.
BURNSVILLE, MN — The city of Burnsville announced that it will host a celebration to commemorate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of slavery in the U.S. on June 19, 1865, despite the Emancipation Proclamation going into effect in 1863, according to The National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian.
The celebration will take place June 19 from 1-3:30 p.m. at North River Hills Park, the city said.
The event will include guest speakers, crafts, entertainment by Tropics Steel Drum Band, a dance party led by line dance leader Teresa Hart-Sandifer and music by U.P.G. choir, the city said.

The city partnered with Dakota County Library, Spirit of Truth Church, ISD 191 and the Burnsville YMCA for this event, it said.
Food will be available to purchase form Jersey Mike's, the city said.
