Burnsville Man Charged with Beating Woman into a Concussion

Brandon Christopher Jones, 25, had only been out of jail for one day when the attack occurred.

A Burnsville man has been accused of beating a woman until she blacked out, then refusing to get her medical treatment.

Brandon Christopher Jones, 25, is charged with third-degree assault (substantial bodily harm), a felony. He also faces three lesser charges for domestic abuse and violation of a no contact order.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident in question took place on the afternoon of March 29, 2012, one day after Jones pleaded guilty to false imprisonment. Following the plea hearing he was released from the Dakota County Jail. He returned to his apartment on Cliff Road, where the victim was staying. The woman said Jones was "very angry" when he arrived, and badgered her about why she hadn't called or written while he was in jail. The two argued until the victim left for work.

She called later that day, asking Jones to return her belongings. He agreed. She came to pick them up, but stayed in the car. The woman said he sat down in th car and began to yell and scream, then struck her in the face. The blow knocked her head into the window.

The two went up to the apartment. Once there, Jones interrogated the woman about her loyalty and forced her to read every line of the previous criminal complaint against him. As Jones got angrier and angrier, he began to slap and punch her. When she tried to leave, he pushed her against the bedroom wall and continued to batter her. During the struggle, the woman ended up prone on a nearby bed. Jones dragged her off by the ankles, poured water over her, took her clothes off and continued beating her. The woman said the assault continued for several hours.

At last, Jones allowed the woman to get off the floor and try to clean herself up. She told Jones she intended to leave. She said he responded by punching her on the left side of her face. Her head ricocheted into a glass picture frame on the wall. She fell to the floor and blacked out.

She came to several times and heard Jones pacing angrily, yelling about having to call an ambulance. Jones allegedly refused to call 911, even though the woman was in dire need of medical attention. He brought her to the hospital the following day. The victim was diagnosed with a severe concussion, which Jones attributed to a fall in the shower.

The ordeal has had lasting repercussions for the victim. As a result of the attack, she was out of work for three weeks. She is still unable to perform strenuous work and suffers from blurred vision, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea. During the beating, the woman also suffered a hip injury, which required surgery, and chipped teeth.

At the time, the woman was not willing to submit a complete report to police, but she agreed to go forward with the case in January 2013 after Jones began calling and texting her again, against court orders.

He remains in custody at the county jail, held on a $75,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for June 5.
