Five Minnesota Connections Academy Students Perform in TCB Narnia

Online public school offers flexibility often needed to pursue an outside passion while still receiving high-quality, accountable education.

Online public school offers the flexibility students often look for when they want to pursue an outside special interest while still getting a top-notch education. One such area that requires hours for practicing and rehearsals is the arts. The K-12 online public school Minnesota Connections Academy in fact attracts many students involved in the arts, including those in music, design, theater, and dance.

That may be why there are five Minnesota Connections Academy students performing in the upcoming Twin Cities Ballet’s original production of "Narnia: The Ballet." Based on the classic novel, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis, the production features an original story adaption of the book, original music compilation and production design, and highlights themes of family, pride, greed, courage, and redemption.

The students include: Isabella (Bella) Rubietta, Renna Nijim (Eagan), Campbell Foust (Savage), and Lillian McKie and Ellenora McKie (St. Paul).

Bella (from Prior Lake) is a senior at Minnesota Connections Academy and is currently graduating second in her class - at the age of 15. She’ll be one of two student speakers at the school’s June 1st in-person graduation ceremony at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Bella attended Connections Academy K-12, as did her brother Grant, who also graduated at age 15. They’re an extraordinary family. While one of the benefits of online public education is the ability to work at one’s own pace (ahead/behind peers), it's not typical for a student to complete multiple grades throughout. Both siblings have also received the highest ranking for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

"Connections Academy provides Bella the flexibility to train and perform while taking a full load of honors classes," says mom, Tracy Rubietta, who graduated at age 15 herself.

"Narnia: The Ballet" runs May 10–12 at Ames Center in Burnsville, Minn. Tickets may be purchased in person at the John and Betty Adamich box office, online or by phone 800-982-2787.

Enrollment for Minnesota Connections Academy's 2019-20 school year is underway. If you're looking for greater flexibility, fewer distractions, more one-on-one time, and a personalized learning pace, Minnesota Connections Academy may be right for you. State-certified teachers work with your student, while a Learning Coach, generally a parent or other caretaker, helps monitor progress in the home. All state standardized tests apply. Minnesota Connections Academy is a member of the Minnesota Transitions Charter School (MTCS), a K-12 academic community. For more information, visit minnesotaconnectionsacademy.com.
