BURNSVILLE, MN — Motorists will need to find an alternate route to access Black Dog Road from northbound Interstate 35W in Burnsville on Sunday, March 24 due to high water from the Minnesota River.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday, crews will close the I-35W northbound ramps at Black Dog Road due to flooding from the Minnesota River.

These ramps may close earlier than 8 p.m. Sunday, March 24, if water rises earlier than predicted, according to a news release.

Crews had already planned to close the northbound I-35W ramps at Black Dog Road in early April to complete work as part of the I-35W Minnesota River Bridge replacement project that is currently underway. Once the ramps close on Sunday, the ramps will remain closed through early fall.

When a road or ramp is closed, it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
