When the year began, no one could have predicted the enormous challenges we would face as a business, a community and as a nation. While we continue to make progress at Mall of America, the road to recovery is going to be slow.
Unfortunately, we have been forced to make the very difficult business decision to permanently layoff 211 Mall of America team members as of September 30, 2020. The team members who have been permanently laid off represent all Mall of America departments.
An additional 178 Mall team members remain on temporary layoff status which may extend beyond September 30. We hope to reinstate those team members in this group when business conditions allow.
COVID-19 and the related health restrictions have significantly impacted brick and mortar retailers. The Mall of America recently entered a forbearance agreement in order to avoid a foreclosure.
