BURNSVILLE, MN— A Burnsville man drowned in Crystal Lake in on Saturday, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office said.
The man was later identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner as 36-year-old Matthew Brust.
Around 5:45 p.m. Saturday, the Sheriff's Office said it responded to a possible drowning on Crystal Lake. Deputies found the body of Brust at 11:25 p.m., the office said.
Brust was on a boat on Crystal Lake and had jumped into the water to save a woman who had fallen in, deputies said. The woman was able to climb back into the boat but Brust struggled as the boat drifted further away from him, deputies said.
Brust then went underwater and never resurfaced, deputies said.
As of May 30, the Minnesota DNR reported that two boating fatalities and six non-boating drownings have occurred in 2021 so far.
