Tornado Warning In Dakota, Scott Counties: 'Take Cover Now'

Residents in Dakota County and Scott County are asked to move to a basement or an inner room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — A tornado warning has been issued for Dakota County and Scott County. Just after 4:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Prior Lake, moving northeast at 35 mph, the National Weather Service reports.

Residents should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter," states the NWS. "Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."
