Anglers Check Out Early Ice Fishing Near Maple Grove

As the ice thickens, some locals are getting out their poles and warm winter gear. Some even discuss their success and the safety of the ice online.

Chatter has begun online about early ice fishing success and ice conditions near Maple Grove.

Some members of Lake State Fishing, an interactive fishing website featuring discussion forums based in the Brainerd Lakes Area, have been posting recently about their trips to local lakes.

Ice thickness seems to be the top concern.

"I went to Eagle last night. Ice was about 8" with about 2" of snow on top," A member posted on Monday.

"I was out on Weaver this past Saturday night," posted another member. "Probably 7" of ice. No luck finding fish, but then again this was my first time ice fishing that lake so I really had no idea where to start."

Some members warned each other to use caution: "Be careful on Weaver. The middle is very deep, and it is usually one of the last lakes to safely freeze."

And while the bite seems to be a little on the slow side so far near Maple Grove, at least under the advisory of this website, members continue to chat about conditions and plan meet ups with each other on local lakes.
