I-35W Construction Between Roseville, Blaine Begins

The ambitious three-year project will construct MnPASS Express Lanes, repave I-35W and repair bridges.

BLAINE, MN — The Minnesota Department of Transportation is advising motorists to prepare for upcoming lane closures, ramp closures and travel delays on Interstate 35W between County Road C in Roseville and Sunset Avenue (County Road 53) on the border of Lino Lakes and Blaine as the I-35W North MnPASS project begins March 31.

The ambitious three-year project will construct MnPASS Express Lanes, repave I-35W and ramps between the interstate and local roads and repair bridges. The I-35W bridges over County Road C and County Road I also will be replaced.

MnDOT will build one MnPASS lane in each direction in the middle of existing I-35W between County Road C in Roseville and Lexington Avenue (Anoka County Road 17) in Blaine.

Between March 31 and April 7, motorists will encounter overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on northbound I-35W between County Road E2 and I-694 and in both directions of I-35W between the southern Highway 10 interchange and County Road J.

During the overnight lane closures, crews will pave areas that are needed for future traffic shifts.

Beginning the morning of Monday, April 8, long-term lane closures begin on northbound I-35W between Roseville and Mounds View/Arden Hills. Northbound I-35W will be reduced to two lanes between County Road C and Mounds View Boulevard (County Road 10) and reduced to three lanes between Mounds View Boulevard (County Road 10) and the northern Highway 10 interchange.

In late April or early May, drivers on southbound I-35W between the northern Highway 10 interchange and Sunset Avenue will be shifted to the east side of the interstate. I-35W will remain two lanes in each direction in this area.

Later in May, drivers on southbound I-35W between County Road C and the northern Highway 10 interchange will also be shifted to the east side of the interstate and lanes will be reduced: there will be two lanes between County Road C and Mounds View Boulevard (County Road 10) and three lanes between Mounds View Boulevard (County Road 10) and the northern Highway 10 interchange.

While lane closures are in place, lane widths will be reduced to 11 feet, according to a news release.

The lane closures for both directions of I-35W will remain in place until November 2019, as crews reconstruct the southbound side of I-35W.
