Maple Grove Announces Tuesday Curfew

The curfew goes into effect Tuesday night and will be lifted 6 a.m. Wednesday.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — A curfew will be in effect for Maple Grove Tuesday, the city announced.

The curfew will go into effect 10 p.m. Tuesday and will be in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

"During the curfew, all persons must not travel, either on foot or in any vehicle of conveyance, on any public street or in any public place," the city said.

Law enforcement, fire, medical personnel, the state's national guard troops and members of the press are exempt from the curfew. Anyone going to work, seeking emergency are, fleeing dangerous circumstances or experiencing homeless is not also exempt.

The curfew is in response to potential civil unrest in the wake of the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center. The police officer identified by authorities in the fatal shooting — Kim Potter — resigned from the department Tuesday, as did the department's chief.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said Tuesday he wound not institute a wide curfew like he did Monday but left it up to local authorities to make their own decisions.

In addition to Maple Grove, Minneapolis and St.Paul announced curfews for Tuesday.
