Maple Grove Man Sentenced In $2.3 Million Mail Fraud Scheme

As a broker, Isaiah L. Goodman misused his clients' funds to buy a house in Maple Grove, among other things, authorities said.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — A Maple Grove man was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to 84 months in prison — or just over seven years — after he was convicted in a million-dollar mail fraud scheme.

Isaiah L. Goodman, 34, pleaded guilty on Feb. 17 to one count of mail fraud.

After his prison sentence is complete, Goodman must serve three years of supervised release. He must also forfeit his equity in real estate and personal property items.

Goodman was a registered investment adviser and broker, authorities said. Between 2017 and 2020, Goodman defrauded at least 23 of his investor clients out of more than $2.3 million, according to federal authorities.

Instead of putting his clients’ money into legitimate investment accounts, Goodman deposited those funds into his own bank accounts, investigators said. He then used that money to buy and remodel his house in Maple Grove, according to authorities.

Goodman also used his clients' money for the construction of a $1.69 million house in Plymouth, a 2019 Ford Expedition and a 2020 Ford Explorer, investigators said.

He also bought a hot tub, a cruise, fitness club memberships and jewelry and made credit card payments with the money, according to authorities.
