Sex Workers Offended By 'Twerkey' Cake From Minnesota Bakery
The owner of a Twin Cities bakery says she received messages from "angry porn stars" about the Thanksgiving-themed creation.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — A Minnesota bakery is on the defensive after producing a turkey-themed cake found offensive by sex industry workers. The “twerkey," made Nadia Cakes, looks like a Thanksgiving bird wearing a thong, sitting on one-dollar bills.
The bakery, owned by Food Network "Cupcake Wars" winner Abby Jimenez, is no stranger to edgy creations. Earlier this year, the Nadia Cakes produced a dessert many believed looked like a female reproductive organ.
The twerky, going for $100 each, was an immediate success. The cakes sold out right away, Jimenez told the Star Tribune. She subsequently planned to sell a Christmas version with a customizable “tramp stamp.”

Those plans were scrapped when the baker learned the cake was offensive to sex workers. After posting an image of it on social media this week, Jimenez says she received a slew of messages from "angry porn stars."

Still, she said she wasn't going to delete the posts until people became "abusive" to her customers in the online comment sections.

"First I'd like to say, publicly, that it was NEVER our intention to insult anyone working in the adult industry," Jimenez wrote on Facebook Wednesday, responding to the criticism.
"I realize that they're at high risk for assault and that they might view this cake as us making a joke out of a dead stripper."
Jimenez said the cake was a play on a viral twerking turkey video and "wasn't meant to dehumanize or normalize violence against anyone in the adult industry."
"The fact that some women in the industry felt this way honestly makes me feel terrible," she added.
Nadia Cakes has locations in Maple Grove and Woodbury.
