Massive Development In The Works For Oakdale

The project would be the largest development in the east metro city's history.

OAKDALE, MN — Oakdale is in the planning phase of a massive new project. In fact, the 206-acre plot of land, owned by 3M, could see the largest development in the city's history. The site, located off Interstate 694 near 36th Street, would host a large residential project.

Ground will be broken for the development this fall, the Pioneer Press reported:

“We are very excited about it,” said Mario Cocchiarella, president of site developer Maplewood Development Inc. “I can tell you this is one of the largest remaining pieces of land in the entire metro area.”
The city is hosting a series of public meetings about the project before it can be approved, according to City Administrator Bart Fischer.
He said Oakdale neighbors will have more than the usual influence because the developer and the city have agreed to complete an extra “small area study” of the project.
Most of the details have yet to be hammered out — the number and type of homes, placement of roads, and the location of green spaces.
