Trooper Recovers With Wife After Head-On Crash: Photos
The State Patrol shared photos of Sgt. Mike Krukowski and his wife before he went into surgery at HCMC Wednesday.
LAKEVILLE, MN — Sgt. Mike Krukowski, 35, of Oakdale was driving down a frontage road in Lakeville Tuesday afternoon when another car veered off Interstate 35, smashed through the freeway fence and crashed into him head-on.
Authorities say the Chrysler was traveling at "a high rate of speed" prior to colliding into Krukowski's squad car.
The crash pinned Krukowski down and he had to be extracted. He was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, the State Patrol shared photos of Krukowski and his wife Crissy before he went into surgery at HCMC. "He is doing well and looking forward to recovering," the patrol said on social media.
"He’s very lucky," Crissy added.

The driver of the Chrysler was identified as Wesley Paul Briggs, 29, of Lakeville. He was airlifted to North Memorial with serious injuries. It is not known if Briggs was wearing a seat belt.
The cause of the crash, including whether Briggs was impaired, is under investigation.
