Attempted Robbery Ends In Crash On I-494 Near I-35W
Police happened to be on the same block, heard gunshots, and followed the gunman onto the freeway.
RICHFIELD, MN — One man was arrested after an attempted robbery ended in a crash on Interstate 494 Thursday morning. Just after 9 a.m., officers heard gunshots near the intersection of 77th Street East and Portland Avenue South in Richfield.
A man tried to rob another person at gunpoint, but they fought back and the gun went off during the struggle. No one was hit, and the gunman fled in his car.
The two Richfield police officers who happened to be on that block followed the gunman onto westbound I-494, where he crashed into another car near Interstate 35W.

The shooter ran from the crash but police tracked him down and arrested him. Officers found the shooter’s discarded handgun at the crash site.
He was jailed at Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.
