"Again, unrest was prevalent throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area last night into this morning. Unfortunately, the original peaceful protest was taken over by individuals whose goals only appear to be violence and destruction. Since the onset of area turmoil, the Richfield Police Department has diligently monitored the ever-evolving situation and has taken proactive measures to reduce and/or prevent criminal activities from impacting our community.
Between 6 p.m. last night and 6 a.m. this morning, our officers responded to a total of 88 calls. Where this is an increase in the number of calls our officers receive on a nightly basis, most were related to suspicious activity that did not result in unlawful activities taking place. One confirmed burglary did take place in Richfield last night. However, through their quick response time and proactive patrols, officers interrupted and prevented numerous suspected burglaries. Several individuals were stopped moments before they made forced entry into city businesses.

For a second night, the Fire Department increased its overnight staffing to augment emergency response. Our firefighters provided mutual aid to the City of Edina regarding a call of smoke in an apartment building, unrelated to the ongoing civil disobedience.
The vast majority of residents complied with the city’s overnight curfew. Richfield will again be under an emergency curfew this evening, May 30, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Our officers and firefighters are strongly committed to providing the highest quality services to residents. Now and in the future, if residents believe they are witnessing any form of illegal activity, please call 911, immediately."
Sincerely,
Katie Rodriguez
