Clear Drains Off Now Ahead Of Rain, Melting Snow
Forecasted rain and increasingly warm temperatures mean minor to severe flooding issues are right around the corner.
TWIN CITIES, MN — Warm air, quickly melting snow and forecasted rain mean minor to severe flooding is very possible this week. The National Weather Service has already issued a flood watch for parts of southern Minnesota.
In an effort to reduce localized street and urban flooding, officials across Minnesota are asking residents to clear off snow, ice, and debris from their nearest storm drain.
If the drains are blocked — as is the case for many of them after so much recent snow — there won't be any place for the water to go.

Blocked drains will increase flooding issues as the March thaw continues.
You can help prevent street flooding! Kudos to residents who are shoveling the snow and ice from the more than 28,000 catch basins in @cityofsaintpaul. Continue to share your pics with us! pic.twitter.com/rV9ej9iJI1

Another way to prepare for the upcoming snowstorm is to clear the snow and ice from the nearest storm drain. When the snow melts, it will need a place to drain to prevent localized flooding. #mnwx #wiwx pic.twitter.com/AhIlhslcys
