Cooling Centers: Where To Find Hot Weather Relief In Twin Cities

With temperatures forecast in the 90s and a heat index that could hit more than 100, here's what you need to know to stay safe.

The first heat wave of the season is on its way to the Twin Cities area this weekend, and while temperatures will "only" be in the 90s, the heat index in the coming days could reach more than 100 degrees. When it's that hot, it's important to keep cool, avoid overexertion and be sure not to overheat.

If you find yourself without power or without air conditioning, it might be a good idea to find a place to cool off.

There are a large number of cooling centers throughout the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area available to residents in the event of extreme heat. To assist in escaping the heat, centers include Salvation Army buildings, libraries, recreation centers, movie theaters and shopping malls.
