The signs will provide information about best practices for using playground equipment and park facilities in light of the COVID-19 health crisis.

“It is our hope that people can continue to enjoy the park system in a safe and responsible manner at this time, keeping in mind best practices for virus mitigation,” said Amy Markle, Richfield Recreation Services Director.

City officials are asking residents to remember to do the following when utilizing the Richfield parks and playgrounds:

  • Stay home from the park if you are sick
  • Practice social distancing while at the park, maintaining a distance of six to eight feet from other people
  • Refrain from group activities that involve people from outside your household
  • Wash your hands both before and after using the playground
  • Avoid, as much as possible, touching surfaces

Markle added: “Also, if a park appears crowded, I would encourage people to come back at a later time so social distancing will be less challenging.”

Despite this time of uncertainty, the Richfield parks system can continue to benefit residents and provide a much needed respite from time spent indoors.

“Parks are incredibly beneficial as people need to try to stay active, especially through the COVID-19 outbreak. Regular physical activity prevents chronic disease, controls weight, strengthens muscles, improves mental health, reduces stress, improves sleep, and more,” explained Markle. “I would encourage people to get outdoors everyday, as it will have numerous positive effects on your life.”

The city will continue to monitor this changing health crisis, and provide updates as new information becomes available. Find more information about the COVID-19 health crisis at: http://www.richfieldmn.gov/covid19.
